Training Exemptions for CCW Permits in AZ
I received a question today regarding what training exemptions there were for the Arizona CCW Permit and if one qualifies under those exemptions, how does the application process work. There just a few training exemptions. You are exempt if you are an active-duty POST-certified Arizona peace officer, federally credentialed peace officer, weapons-certified county detention officer, or honorably retired federal, state, or local peace officer with at least 10 years of service.
- If you do fall under the training exception, to obtain your permit you need to do the following:
- Submit a completed CCW application form.
- If exempt from the training requirement under A.R.S. § 13-3112(E)(6), submit a letter on official letterhead of the agency employing or from which the applicant is honorably retired that states that the applicant’s duties are or were primarily the investigation and apprehension of individuals suspected of violating criminal laws; and includes the applicant’s name, job title or position, dates of employment, current employment status, and the name and telephone number of an individual who can verify the information provided;
- Submit two full sets of classifiable fingerprint (initial only, not required for renewal)
- Submit the appropriate fee ($60 for initial, $43 for renewal
That’s all you need to do if you fall under a training exemption.
